Nafplio
History of Nafplion
Anapli or Nafplio, the capital of the prefecture of Argolida, is one of the most famous and beautiful cities of Greece. Apart from management is an important tourist center, moving throughout the years.
According to mythology, the city owes its name to the founder of Nauplion, son of Poseidon and Amymone. During antiquity, Nafplion was virtually in the shadow of Argos, having served as a port since the 7th century BC.
Since then Nafplion tried holding various conquerors, first the Franks, the Venetian and then the Turks, with a little "break" with the Second Venetian Domination. Masterpieces of Venetian domination is the first castle of Toroni and Bourtzi.
